So you have decided to convert your Visual FoxPro program to .NET and you have done some searching for companies that can do this for you. But the more questions you ask of these companies, the more confused you are.
Many of these companies use highly technical terms and acronyms which only adds to the confusion. They show you process flow, talk about their own frameworks, talk about project analyzers and many other things that you likely have no idea what they mean. Some will tell you that automatic conversion is impossible. I agree with that. Well, almost. Much of the very time consuming and tedious and expensive work has been fully automated. I will be explaining in great detail the major points made in the blog post referenced below. I will also be adding a number of other points that you will find useful.
What you really want to know is how much will the project cost and how long will it take. I will be doing a series on what you should be looking for. This is the introduction to that series.
We think that a thorough analysis of your program code, reports, forms (screens), etc. is the critical first step in determining the scope of the conversion.
